Workplace Diversity: it makes good business sense

As you look around your office, is everyone just like you? Probably not. The demographics of the Australian workforce have changed dramatically over the last 30 years, and will continue to do so.

I’m co-founder of a lead generation marketing business within the Australian IT industry. Fast paced in nature, change is the only constant. One has to be continually up to speed with what’s happening in the market or one risk’s failure.

Established in June 2013, Lead Harvest in on an exponential growth curve. We embrace technology and we’ve embraced the 365-day connected communications approach which we believe is more aligned to the current ways people do business. Professionally, I’ve helped to deliver new and innovative ways to help businesses go to market.

Like many people, I’ve got certain ways of doing things: the fundamental way I look at things: the perspective I take on analysing a situation, the manner I relate to my team.

I would have continued to do many things the same if it we’re not for my business partner. With equal passion and drive, my business partner has brought new ways of thinking – new perspectives.

Did I mention that my business partner is a woman? She’s a smart, highly capable individual who has contributed much needed insight and experience to the Lead Harvest business. We leverage each other’s personal and professional strengths and together, we lead our ever expanding team.

Diversity in the workplace is like having a many business partners. If our business was run and operated by a team of people just like me, there would be a very single minded view on all aspects of strategy, operations, marketing and sales.

“Inspiring change” is this year’s the theme for International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In the IT industry, change is inevitable. To inspire change is to succeed. Workplace diversity makes good business sense.
